Habitat for Humanity-MidOhio’s homeowner application window runs through September 20, during which time we accept applications from people and families who want to help build their own house and assume an affordable mortgage.

On Sept. 9 alone, we handed out 274 applications at our offices for people to become homeowners in fiscal year 2026, July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2026. This does not include applications printed at home. To put it in context, we built 15 homes in fiscal year 2024.

There is great demand for affordable housing, but more specifically, there is great demand for affordable home ownership opportunities. While owning a home does not fit the needs of everyone, there are many benefits, making it an appropriate path for many families.

At Habitat, we connect people to opportunity and hope through obtaining and maintaining affordable home ownership. As the newly appointed president and CEO, I aim to grow Habitat’s impact and service. Through partnerships, innovative funding, and new service models such as multifamily home ownership, we hope to be a leader in solving our affordable housing crisis.
