Service work was always something that I had been passionate about since I was a kid. During my senior year of college I had the opportunity to intern with a nonprofit organization, and I absolutely loved it. After I graduated I knew I needed a little more experience in the nonprofit field, but after moving back home I wasn’t sure where to start.
When I found the AmeriCorps position with Habitat for Humanity-MidOhio as their Community Outreach Coordinator I felt like it was the perfect fit. I knew it would give me that additional experience I needed.
While serving with Habitat for Humanity-MidOhio, I learned so many new skills and really developed my strengths. I was able to work directly with our partner families, process applications, volunteer on site, participate in Rock the Block events, Build- A- Thon, and connect with so many community organizations and residents in the areas we served.
Serving as an AmeriCorps member with Habitat for Humanity-MidOhio has taught me so much. I feel so blessed to have built such amazing relationships with my fellow AmeriCorps members, staff, and community organizations. After my service year was over I had the opportunity to be hired on as staff, and I couldn’t be more thankful. If I didn’t go with my gut and pursue what I was passionate about, the skills I acquired and the opportunities I had serving as an AmeriCorps member wouldn’t have happened. I’m so blessed that it brought me here!
